Balance is about being purposeful.

If you are burning the candle at both ends, or on the verge of changing careers, reinventing yourself, moving from fulltime to flextime, starting a business or the like—now's the time to mine your soul purposefully and examine your perspectives and beliefs. Get inside yourself and ask what's true for you so you can make values-based choices that connect who you are with what you do. So you can breathe.

So Let's Bust the Myths

The first myth of work-life balance holds that it's possible to spin several plates in the air at the same time with equal dexterity, if you’re committed, disciplined, and of course coordinated enough to do so.

Balance in all its popular permutations (work+life, life+work, life+life, work+life integration) is at the core, not about balance at all, but about fulfillment and purpose. It's a personal inquiry that requires some rigorous and practical soul searching that will then naturally extend into your professional choices: "Who am I? What do I want? And how do I express who I am and what I want in the work I choose to do?"

By looking at your life as a series of values-based choices—often difficult ones—you will avoid falling prey to the second myth.

What About Having it All?

Back in the day, nobody was bothered by work-life balance issues. In fact, the term didn't even exist. But something happened. For a whole passel of social, political, economic reasons, we women clamored to have it all, and this message was marketed to us with a vengeance, changing our personal expectations, and creating an angst we didn’t need. But what is "it"? And more importantly, what is "all" of "it"?

Show up and lead like a woman.

The world is starving for women to show up, powerfully and take a stand for ourselves and our world. We believe that by fostering the strengths of feminine leadership—collaboration, community, compassion, creativity—and inspiring women to create purposeful livelihoods, we create lasting change for you, those around you, and for the world.
